The Best WoW Private Servers

Our top picks, one for each type of player, followed by a live ranking built from player reviews, reported population and community votes.

Community ranking

Ordered by a score that is three-quarters server quality (player reviews and reported population) and one-quarter community votes from the last 30 days, so a server can't climb on votes alone. Sponsored listings appear first and are labelled; the ranking below them is calculated. You can vote once a day for each server you play on.

Common questions about Best Private Servers

01

What is the best WoW private server?

It depends on how you like to play. Our current picks include Warmane Icecrown - WotLK PVP (busiest wotlk realm), ChromieCraft - Progressive WotLK (progressive wotlk, non-profit), Kronos WoW - Vanilla PVP Server (established blizzlike vanilla), Warmane Onyxia - TBC PVE (tbc with a big population). The picks at the top of this page explain each choice.
02

How are the picks chosen?

The picks are editorial. We look at how long a server has been running, its reported population, its rates and rules, and whether it sells gameplay advantages. Servers cannot pay to be included.
03

How does the community ranking work?

Each server gets a score that is three-quarters quality (player reviews and reported population) and one-quarter community votes from the last 30 days. Servers with weak fundamentals have their vote share capped, so votes alone cannot push them to the top.
04

How do I vote for a server?

Use the Vote button on a server in the community ranking or on its page. You can vote once per server per day. Votes from signed-in players count fully, and guest votes count a little over half as much.
05

Are WoW private servers safe to play?

Private servers are unofficial and not affiliated with Blizzard. Download clients only from sources you trust, never reuse your Battle.net password, and be careful with servers that sell gear or boosts.

How we choose and rank servers

The picks at the top of this page are editorial. We weigh how long a server has been running, its reported population, its rates and rules, and whether it sells gameplay advantages. Servers can't pay to be picked, and a pick drops off automatically if its server closes.

The community ranking is calculated. Three-quarters of a server's score comes from its quality (player reviews and reported population) and one-quarter from community votes in the last 30 days. Signed-in players' votes count fully and guest votes count less. Servers with weak fundamentals have their vote share capped, so votes alone can't carry them. Badges such as Trending and Rising come from voting momentum and can't be bought.

We regularly check whether each server's website responds and flag the ones that don't. Population numbers come from the servers themselves, so treat them as a rough guide. For the full list with filters for expansion, rates, realm type and language, use the server directory. For numbers across all listed servers, see our private server report.
