Stormforge is Closing
Introduction
Just a couple of weeks ago, we learned that Blizzard won a lawsuit against Turtle WoW. Afterwards, Turtle WoW announced that they were closing down. Now, we can announce that yet another WoW Private Server is closing.
Another WoW Server is Closing
This time, it is the well-known server called Stormforge, which currently offers TBC, WotLK and Mists of Pandaria, which will be saying goodbye after a few years. Stormforge is especially known for their famous The Burning Crusade server, as well as their Mists of Pandaria server where they offered a decent quality. Their scripting was close to being blizzlike and MoP classic. Perhaps this is why Blizzard has targeted them?
Stormforge originates from Atlantiss WoW, so the staff management team has a lot of background within the WoW scene.
Where Should the Stormforge Players Go Next?
MoP players are looking for a new home. Luckily, Whitemane has conveniently announced that they are starting a Mists of Pandaria server, expected to open in June 2026. Coincidence? I think not. Likely this is a joined effort between Stormforge and Whitemane, offering a partnership where Whitemane is expected to continue the run.
How is the Whitemane WoW Server Doing?
Whitemane is known for their Cataclysm server and Wrath of the Lich King servers. However, over the past couple of years, the trust and faith in the Whitemane project has slowly decreased. Players don't trust the staff management team, and now Whitemane announced a new ownership taking over, but with very little details. Personally, I am skeptical, but perhaps they can surprise positively.
What Other MoP Servers Are Available?
Another choice, aside from Whitemane, is Helios WoW, crafted by Twinstar. The server appears to be a promising alternative to Stormforge, also striving for the blizzlike experience.
While we don't know what the future holds, one could be concerned around Helios WoW getting Blizzard as a target, if it becomes big enough.
Conclusion
At this point, it even appears to be a positive thing if a server does not have the largest population. Back in the days, players wanted the server with the highest server population. But perhaps now, it is better if the server stays low with a couple of hundred players? That way, Blizzard may not target them? What do you think — is that naive thinking?
